Year end wrap up

Updated 12.30.2015
Another break from posting, but this time due to family and holidays, so there is no regret. It's the time of year for year end lists, although here is a good example of why those lists are worse than meaningless. I'm not interested in creating my own end of year list, but I did want to pause for a moment before the end of the year and take stock of this site, its past and its future.

A year of reformatting

The site has been reformatted many times, however, 2015 represented a significant change as everything behind the scenes changes as well, multiple times. Some of the change was mandated when Google changed its algorithm, but the uncertainty in choices was all me. It took way too long to choose a coding program, and then too long to choose which template I would use. I'm happy with the current format though, so the look should be stable for awhile.

A year of re-organization

In addition to changing the formatting of the site, I also significantly changed the organization of the site. I am generally pleased with the effect of the change and it has meant that I have published more often. However, I never finished updating all the older content, so that will be a goal for 2016.

Although I am mostly pleased with the changed organization, I am still tweaking to make older content easier to find. There used to be a search box on each page that allowed a visitor to search the site, maybe I'll try that again, but the new format isn't particular suited to just having a search box sitting on the page

Publishing frequency still lags.

Another goal for 2016 will be too publish more frequently as well as more regularly. Although I published a bit more often here in 2015, the posting schedule was irregular. I have decided to retire the "quick notes" pieces that I do occasionally in favor of longer pieces. Anything that can be covered in a quick notes way will instead by place on the blog associated with this site: What we're reading in the Arena.

My goal for writing frequency, at least at the start of the year is once a week.

Content shift?

This site has been, will be, my "Speaker's corner." That said, I think there is room to alter how topics are presented here. I'm not saying that I'll never rant here again, but I am saying that I hope that I will write longer, referenced articles here more often in the new year.
