Published 12.30.2025: This is my annual post about resolutions, which has fallen out of favor, but which I still make. And evaluate at the end of the year to see if I have managed to meet any of them.
I don’t do “National Quit Day” in January. I see these as goals that I may or may not meet, but three weeks is not long enough to determine if I will meet them. It is long enough to see if I’ve gotten off to a good start.
I also don’t put a lof of value on meeting these goals, they are things that I want to do, all things being equal, but if I don’t do them, I’m not stressed about them. I think I’ve had my weight loss goal for as long as I’ve been making resolutions. My manner of losing weight has changed, but the goal has not. I got close this year to my goal, but I’m not fussed that I didn’t make it.
This year I learned that fasting is not for me. It works, because it creates a calorie deficit, BUT in my case it causes a bit of gasto-intestinal distress. As I don’t want to deal with that distress, I changed the way I’m attempting to lose weight. And no, I’m not airing my distress on the internet.
I have begun to try and eat as much fiber as possible, rather than stressing about the amount of tof protein I’m getting. I assume that (asa with most Americans) I get plenty of protein, but what I don’t necessarily get enough of is fiber. This past year I read the book Fiber Fueled, and got inspired to eat more fiber. I especially do so in the mornings. I no longer work out fasted, that died when I realized that fasting was not for me.
I do find that eating before a workout helps in terms of my performance (I only eat a little, or I find it upsets my stomach). And when I say “perfomance” I mean that you feel better, not that I lift more or move faster. I just feel better working out fed rather than fasted and neither is more correct than the other.
Other resolutions include reading more, and a variety of resolutions relating to my offline business, that I will not detail here. Oh, and I’ve decided to try and learn to play the piano (again). No clue if I’ll actually do it, but I think it’s a worthy goal.
I don’t have any gym related resolutions this year because I already go 5 days a week (two days are cardio only).
I will end here to rediscover how to move it to the home page.
